On a Monday evening April 23, 1956 seventy-eight Past Masters and Officers of the 19th Masonic District of Ohio assembled at Ohio Lodge No. 199 for the purpose of organizing a District Association.

The meeting was called to order promptly at 8:00pm by then R.W. Bro. Glen C. Rine, District Deputy Grand Master of the 19th District. He then appointed W. Bro. Ray Giffen a Past Master of Ohio No. 199 to act as Chairman, and W. Bro. Carl Haxton a Past Master of Wakatomica No. 108 to act as Secretary. W. Bro. Giffen read a letter of resolution which was adopted by the body.

W. Bro. Giffen then introduced Past Grand Master M.W. Bro. James J. Harbarge who with the assistance of the then 14th District Secretary, W. Bro. Ervin R. Linch of East Gate Lodge No. 603, informed those assembled how the District Associations operated, and read samples of by-laws that may be adopted by the 19th District.

 

An election of the first officers of the District was held with the following results:

President - W. Bro. Carl Foster, Hebron No. 116

1st Vice President - W. Bro. Edwin Darns, Newark No. 97

2nd Vice President - W. Bro. William Stalter, Coshocton No. 96

Secretary / Treasurer - W. Bro. Carl Haxton, Wakatomica No. 108

 

By direction of the president, the two Vice Presidents then appointed W. Bro. Chalmer White of Bloomfield No. 422 as 3rd Vice President. The Vice Presidents served as the By-Law Committee.

A total of $55.20 was collected, and after paying for refreshments, the treasury of the District stood at $40.20.

The first meeting as an official Association was held at the beautiful new Lodge in Centerburg, Bloomfield No. 422 on June 30, 1956. By-Laws for the District Association were adopted and it was decided not to collect dues of $6.00 per lodge until the next annual meeting. R.W. Bro. Glen Rine will have the By-Laws printed and distribute them to each lodge.
